Computer Technology

Computer Technology I  (B Day)

            The Computer Technology program focuses on the Cisco Networking Academy Program.  Region 9 is a local academy to Central Maine Community College in Auburn.  The Networking Academy program combines lecture and online learning with laboratory exercises in which students apply what they learn in class while working on actual networks.  All tests are completed on-line.  Semester 1 focuses on Networking Basics and Semester 2 focuses on Routers and Routing Basics.  From basic to advanced networking skills, the Networking Academy prepares students for lifelong opportunities in the real world. Computer Technology I focuses on Semesters 1 and 2. Students will also work on Cisco’s IT Essentials, which focuses on computer hardware and operating systems. The curriculum is college level reading.
            Students who obtain a grade of 85 or higher and a teacher recommendation are eligible to receive 3 college credits from Central Maine Community College, through an articulation agreement, for each semester of the Cisco program that they successfully complete.  Students can earn a maximum of 6 credits at CMCC in Computer Technology I.

Prerequisites:  Algebra I  

Computer Technology II  (B Day)

           Students will continue to focus on the Cisco Networking Academy Program, working through Semesters 3 and 4.  Cisco Semester Three focuses on Switch Configuration and Intermediate Routing and Cisco Semester 4 focuses on WAN Technologies.  Students will also have the opportunity to focus on Cisco IT Essentials II, which focuses on Network Operating Systems.
           
Students gain real work experience by assisting in computer related projects throughout the community.  In the past, Computer Technology students have networked computers in schools, town offices and other institutions.  Students who obtain a grade of 85 or higher and a teacher recommendation are eligible to receive 3 college credits from Central Maine Community College, through and articulation agreement, for each semester of the Cisco program that they successfully complete.  Students can earn a maximum of 6 credits at CMCC in Computer Technology II.

Prerequisites:  Completion of Computer Technology I.  

Computers in Business (A Day)

          Computers in Business is an excellent training experience for students who may be planning to attend college for business information processing or computers or for students who are entering the filed of business in computers upon graduation from high school.  Topics covered are also essential skills in many areas and will benefit students entering any number of careers.  This is a one year course and will be offered on A days.
